Las Cruces,NM has three seasons; Spring, Summer and Fall. Living costs are low. Houses in the 1600 to 2000 square foot range are $180,000 to $200,000. State income taxes are very favorable with most people ove 65 not having to pay any. Hospitals and doctors are excellent. It's the home of New Mexico State University which has the most sponsored engineering research of any school in the country. There is almost no polution, especially in the higher elevations on the east side. White Sands proving ground and the Spaceport are nearby. Arts and recreation are plentiful. Square dancing is tsaught to help people with Alzheimer's, strokes and heart disease. There is great hiking in the Organ Mountains.

Prescott, AZ, known for excellent retirment and beautiful pine trees. Situated at 5000' half way between Pheonix (a 2 hour drive for shopping) and Flagstaff, close to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and LA, this area is incredibly beautiful! Known for the tallest Ponderosa Pine in NA, I moved here 4 years ago and love the pine trees, the forest, the people wave at one another, and when its sizzling in triple digist in Phoenix 2 hours south of us it is a comfortable 80-85 with fresh sweet smelling pine air! LOVE IT!

Sixth generation Floridian here folks and I'm telling ya'that La Florida is not fit to live in!!!...she's overpopulated 6 months out of the year, her fresh water supply is running out, her roads are traffic jammed, her air quality is fading, her forests are being desecrated, her lakes are drying up, it doesn't rain anymore, there's 24/7/365 hurricane threats, her property taxes are high and ya' can't get homowners insurance...and there's Orange and Blue Gators everywhere!!!

I wouldn't live here if I wasn't born here!!!...*L*

My wife and I are both nurses, mid forties and looking to both work and enjoy our lives in a decent climate area. We are from northern Minnesota so no interest in cold states. Have done the southern Az thing and find it horribly hot and overrun with crowds not to mention the traffic. It is a great place if you are rich and we are not. Now in Colorado and hate it. No lakes, way too many people who have made this beautiful state a sprawl, traffic is unbeleveable, and the cost of living is higher than Pikes Peak. Wondering about southwestern Florida areas? or maybe southern Missouri?. We both need to work, we enjoy holistic health, health food stores, bookstores, metaphysics and are liberal. Anybody out there have a constructive clue?

Were ready to make our move to retire. Were looking for a safe, affordable and healthy place to live. I know so is everyone else. Anyhow, we've got it narrowed down to Arizona I think. Any suggestions? What about Green Valley? Also, we love the outdoors..biking, golfing, swimming. And were also looking for convenience to everything..

I retired on the St. Johns River in Palatka. It is close to St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra, World Golf Village and Jacksonville. Has great fishing, and small town atmosphere. If you like the beaches on the east coast, then you should check out Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach. I have lived in that area also. Both are great places and I am sure there are many more great places but I would not move to far from family.

Punta Gorda is absolutly the ideal place. It's like Heaven on earth. You got to experience it, is all I can say.

Come see for your self

It's hard to retire anywhere unless you have an open mind. I came to Bell Buckle, TN just south of Nashville. It's been like falling off the back of a turnip truck. A lot of folks like to eat here. You can tell just by looking at them.

I am told that Vero Beach is an excellent choice if you like small towns with less congestion in the state of Florida. Has anyone moved there recently and what are plus and minuses you have experienced? Do single or newly widowed women have a place to be comfortable there?
