the country Madagascar needs

- to rebuild its road infrastructure,

- modern telecommunication infrastructure, especially in the wireless are

- investment in agro-industry

(remember the story of leasing of the so-called half of its arable land, to the south koeran Daewoo?)

- investment in eco-tourism: that island is famous of its uniqueness of fauna and flora: 90% of them are endemic to this country! That country has a spectacular biodiversity!

- investment in mining (titanium, uranium, oil, gem stones, rare elements, ...)

This is despite of a transitional regime established by a french-backed coup d'etat in march 2009 against a democratically elected, more liberal and pro business president Mr Marc Ravalomanana.

There's a lot to be done there!

This is definitely an eye opener for many who do not believe in the potential of Africa, as a continent, to dominate the global economic world. The returns are great. The workforce is young and ambitious. The government is becoming more democratic and supportive of capitalistic efforts. It's only a matter of time before Africa, as a continent, becomes the leader. Many countries within Africa will lead the charge like Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, and Ghana, just to name a few; but it will be great to witness.

The returns mentioned in the article are impressive, especially when compared to US stock market performance over the past 10 years. I read a report from a consulting firm listing several African companies that can become global leaders. I also like the low correlation of returns. This seems like a solid strategy to investigate and pursue!

Africa is not a country it is a continent It seems to me that there are racial under currrents within this article. So sad!!!

I would rather see Sean Penn from CA's comment removed. He's off topic.

Be your own judge, but don't say something like one who knows nothing.

Invest with your brain, not with your mouth.

I mean, why not? We have an African running this nation into the ground. What difference would it make if you invested there or here?
