Does the 12B1 effect any of this?

Five years after retirement, my IRA is years of my maximum savings below the original amount, thanks to a Fidelity Investment "expert" IRA fund adviser and an estate attorney from Gardendale, Alabama. The only people who make money at Fidelity are the fund managers.

You certainly cannot judge a fund manager's performance well enough if it is under ten years. Nevertheless, Doubleline a fairly new fund, has a manager and crew with an impressive record at another fund, and should be taken seriously.

Very good article.

Vanguard Dividen Growth(VDIGX) and GLRBX are terrific funds for any age group including retirees.

The Vanguard Wellesley Income Fund is an awesome fund and especially for people nearing retirement.

A fund that deserves considerartion for being on your list of "50" is the Vanguard Inflation Protected Securities Fund.

It has a great track record for the past eleven years and sooner than later inflation will be here again.

Very informative, but the 1-year return, in the tumult of the present world financial environment, might be insightful as well. This has been a year of enormous ups and downs, and how these funds have insulated themselves, or not, would also be instructive.

Shameless pandering to the idiots who are still chasing high returns in actively managed mutual funds.

Troy of FL 1:22AM November 14, 2011

A lot of these funds have expense ratios well over 1%. Funds like that are expensive to keep in your portfolio. They eat up to returns. An expensive fund like that has to have superlative returns to compensate for high expense ratios. There are no guarantees, I will stay with Vanguard, thank you very much.
