The Appleseed Fund (APPLX)
As of March 5, 2010
This fund avoids companies from the tobacco, alcohol, pornography, gambling, and weapons industries. Apart from that, management likes businesses that are environmentally friendly and that promote human rights and community investment. Comanager Adam Strauss says that while these restrictions can sometimes keep the fund out of good investments, they don’t have much of an effect on overall performance. “There are certainly investments that could generate a strong financial return that we’ve taken a pass on,” he says. “But our perspective is that there are many thousands of stocks out there to purchase, [so] there are going to be other opportunities.”
