Fidelity Investments, T. Rowe Price, and Vanguard are the dominant investment firms offering such funds, accounting for roughly three-fourths of all target-date assets. Brightscope and Target Date Analytics, two 401(k) research firms, have assembled performance data for the sector through the end of 2011. Fidelity has multiple target-date “families.” Its Freedom series is the one measured here.
