I sold my home on Oct 2005 and claimed it on my 2005 taxes. then in June of 2008 i signed for the pruchase of my new home, which i am still in, and claimed the credit under the original law' as the free tax service offered " anyone who is purchasing a home between April 1, 2008 and June 30 2008, and has not owned a home in 3 years can take the sredit, I did. now i have spent the last 15 months fighting the IRS that if i filed the old home sale on the 2005 tax year (making it 05-06-07) that my pruchase in 08 and claim should be accepted. It was rejected because the IRS now goes by the number of days and not the filing year! Has anyone ever heard of that. I am now being held responsible for taxes, interest and penalties. id there anyone that can shed some light on what to do? I am on disability and limited income each month. This situation is a nightmare.can i refile the purchase under another year? I cannot afford a lawyer

I bought my home in 2008. I have to repay the stimulus while those who have bought their home since then do not. Why don't they ammend that? I only got the stimulus to do some of the many repairs the house needed.

Give current homeowners a stimulus....Give us $8000 for home improvement, and let us pay back $4000, interest free! We all need a break!

I SIGNED A CONTRACT IN JUNE, 2010. It is September 10, 2010 and I still have not closed. Is it too late for me?

Right now its June 26, 2010, I'm just starting the paperwork for fiancing, I'm a first time homeowner...I guess I'm out of luck. I hope there is one more extension before it goes away.

My son closed on his new house today. Does his file an amended 2009 return for the $8,000 credit or does he half to wait until 2010 tax return?
