Some states do not tax income, some do not tax spending. Who can help me understand how to figure which is more favorable? Thanks. Retired IL high school teacher.

When I retire I'm leaving the US and moving to a small town in Guatemala. At least here my social security and pension will allow me to live better. I'm certainly leaving Miami Dade County's nasty people, political corruption, high crime, high taxes to support ttoo many lazy bums.I don't want to even see Miami in pictures when I retire! After putting up with low class people as a social worker for years, when I retire,I 'll be out of here real quick!!

State College, PA is right next to Phillipsburg, PA. Maybe they are somewhat like Mayberry USA but they are great place to retire. You don't have the big city hustle/bustle, they have that great small town feel. I spent almost every summer at the cousins in Phillipsburg, saw a lot of sports games at State College and it's an excellent area with modest priced homes, clean air. They have the parades on the 4th of July and Labor Day that people come from 50 miles around to attend. I know of many people that moved elsewhere, worked, and then retired back to Phillipsburg.

Hmmm, on second thought, stay away from State College and Phillipsburg, PA. They are terrible places for big city folks.
