The average household can leak more than 10,000 gallons of water each year, and much of that water escapes through toilets. “The leaking toilet can be one of the worst water wasters and probably one of the biggest areas of just total waste in the household,” says Eva Opitz, the chair of the American Water Works Association’s Water Conservation Division.
