Author Devon Kinch introduces us to Penny, a young girl with designer boots and a pink shoulder bag who wants to throw a birthday party for her grandmother, Bunny. Penny quickly realizes, though, birthday parties cost money—money she doesn’t have. Determined to raise the funds, Penny dives into the old items in her grandmother’s attic. She proceeds to open a “small mall,” sells the belongings that still have value and makes enough to throw her grandmother the birthday celebration she deserves—teaching young readers that, if you want to buy something, you have to find a way to pay for it.
