Well Glen Smallwood, after March 1st. You will no longer recieve social Security Benefits. Plain and simple.

To whom it may concern: I am receiving a notice every month with my social security check telling me that I have to get a checking account or a debit card by Mar. 2013 in order to receive my benefit. I would respectfully request that whoever is responsible for sending this annoying monthly reminder please cease and desist. At present I have no checking account or a debit card. Its been my choice for almost 40 yrs. to have neither and I don't intend to do so at anytime in the near future. At present there has been no law enacted by congress which compels anyone to be forced to get a checking account or a debit card nor do I think there will be. Therefore please be advised you have no authority to demand that I or anyone else do either. Your compliance with this friendly reminder will be greatly appreciated. Please continue mailing my check indefinitly. I understand you are concerned that it costs .92 cents more to send a paper check vs. an electronic manuver of some sort. Therefore be advised you are authorized to subtract $1.00 ea. mo. from my check to cover this cost. One further reminder if I may. Keep in mind that as an arm of the federal govt. your employment is made possible by ''WE THE PEOPLE''. I happen to be a bonafide member of this group. This means the govt, and (you) work for us not the other way around. We elect the people who make up this organization and allow them to enact laws. Your monthly reminder carries no weight as there is no law forcing anyone to have a checking account or a debit card. Therefore please stop the unnecessary use of an attempt at an illegal coersion. Respectfully, one of your employers.

We get so little money from Social Security and now to use this debit card, we would have to pay out more money. What's up with this? What happens if someone has a judgment against their Social Security check?

can a social security debit card be garnished or levy by a creditor

I have some questions about Social Security debit cards:

1- Since various federal agencies are doing this, will it be possible to combine all that an individual has into one debit card?

2- What will be the limit on the amount of one’s own money that can be obtained at an ATM for free once a month?

What will be the per transaction limit on the amount of one’s own money that can be obtained at a participating (Direct Express® card ATM surcharge-free network) bank for free?

What will be the per transaction limit on the amount of one’s own money that can be obtained at an ATM thereafter for a fee?

3- Doesn’t the money cease being a federal benefit once I am in receipt of the funds? In other words, will a judgment creditor be able to levy upon this prepaid debit account?

Sounds complicated as in ripping off people. First you have to find a comerica bank. Why not banks that are more acceesible to most people, in addition there are fees attached to using this card.

I prefer direct deposit.

I've contacted all my reps. It took 1 year and 5 calls to get my address updated and to get access to the website. I don't think a company that is that poor with customer service should have billions of dollars to be in charge of. You can't even call and get customer service. The customer help people all read from cards and if you interrupt them they get pissed off. This company blows and no state reps will do a thing. Looks like another Republican propped up company, a friend of Rick Perry's probably. An ATM no way! Well if I travel 50 miles to Sacramento, they have ONE!!! One and it is a bank, One! I'd like to see some of these politicians live with this crap!!Tom McClintok, Boxer and Fienstien have all not answered so they must support this crap!!!!!
