With delight, we're just approaching our second full year in a unique community known as Tonto Verde located just North and East of Scottsdale, Az it's been fun, offering an environment that is removed from the city but close enough to not feel isolated. While golf is a major feature, with 2 excellent golf courses, We enjoy the hiking, biking and a variety of activities that make the community a real Win. We've traveled allot but are very happy to be here for our regular winter retreats!

I recently retired to Bella Vista, AR and am playing golf as much as I like. There are six regulation courses plus two executive ones and all are fun to play. The best part is that the golf is reasonably priced and this past winter I played every week. Bella Vista is close to Bentonville and Rogers and only 35 miles from Fayetteville where the University of Arkansas is located. Everything that one would need is nearby so I have not missed the city. A low crime rate, moderate climate and friendly folks have made my retirement decision very enjoyable.

Alden Place in the Cornwall area, just near the towns of Lebanon and Hershey offers easy access to golf courses as well. If you're looking for a countryside retirement community, you might want to consider Alden Place.

Tellico Village in Loudon and Monroe Counties TN (south of Knoxville) offer golf with three course and the Tellico Lake for great boating and fishing. Although not an age-restricted community, it has self-selected that way -- 70% or so are over 55 +. The many activities and a sense of community made it attractive for us, and good golf weather for MOST of the year is a plus. Knoxville has an amazing array of cultural and sports activities and the Great Smoky Mountains are nearby.

There are other golf and lake communities in the area for shopping around...

When it comes to retirement and golf they go hand in hand, says my boyfriend 47, Mesa,AZ Hopefully there will be new golf courses to play by the time he retires. He loves to play new courses and wonders about the economic impact. And what it will do to the new golf course plans? For Arizona and the surrounding States.

Having taken a hit like most of us on retirement savings, I would like to know if there is a list out there of the "Ten Best Places to Retire on a Budget for Golfers. I have received literature from the Cliff's Communities, but alas, its pricey. I am an avid golfer and want to retire in the western US, preferably in a desert area, but not too crowded. Any ideas out there?

I am a golfer and moved to the Cliffs Communities in South Carolina -- located north of Greenville, SC. There are 7 Cliffs developments in the area and each has a good to great golf course. As a golf member of the Cliffs, you can play all of them. Also, Tiger Woods first US golf course is being developed here.

The climate has 4 seasons (summer is hot, but not as hot as the coast, and winter is mild except perhaps in Asheville). The developments are all in the Blue Ridge mountains or in the foothills, and the scenery is spectacular. Several of the developments are on Lake Keowee -- one of the most beautiful lakes in the US.

All in all, a great place to retire -- especially for golfers.
