How to Retire on a Shoestring

Hey Joe of NC. It is always about blaming the rich isn't it. They pay the majority of taxes, create jobs, and give a lot of money to charity. I am not thrilled with all wealthy people, but they are not necessarily the problem. I have an issue with my tax paying dollars going to public employees (unions), with them getting higher salaries, big pensions, special benefits, and an attitude of wanting more and more. It is coming out of your pocket and my pocket. That is why we are having an economy crisis. Taking money from the rich is not solving the problem. Eliminating the spending, lowering taxes, and sacrifices from public employees, will help solve the issue. By the way, if you were Amish, you would get no SS, pension, etc. You would need to become self sufficient. Of course you would have nobody to blame except yourself if you did not make it. Also, if the government would get off of our backs, and stop the nonsense that they are creating, the American dream would still be alive.

I have recently been diagnoised with early stage Parkinsons disease and am seriously thinking about retiring, had some accounting type people crunch some numbers and they feel I would do about $3850.99 a month retired and should be ok. I am worried that inflation and unseen future financial problems my cause me problems down the road. I guess I am honestly scared to retire as I really Love my job and feel that I would be walking into the Great Unknow world of Retirement. I would appreciate any Ideas, advice or suggestions and experience's anyone would be interested in sharing with me.

I thought I may have to quit my job and help care for him I was missing lots of work etc. so I only get $611 befor ins taken out. My husband gets about $1100. Its a financial mess if I quit my parttime job. I am now 65yrs and the job is mainten. at a county park with lots of stuff I really cant do now, I have to try because of budget cuts we are about 5 or 6 people short with many more to go. This park is 500 acres and lots of work with more put on us all the time. I want to quit and find easier job but except for the simplest xomputer stuff I feel ill equip. to find other work. I need a real long and stretchable SHOESTRING

I've been looking for ways to shelter income because I'm expecting major tax changes to offset all of this spending by the gov't. Does anyone have experience with mineral depreciation allowances as a tax shelter. I came across this blog and thought it was an interesting idea. http://blog.greenwichfinancial.com/2008/05/copyright-2008-greenwich-financial.html

Maybe an investment in a dictionary and a grammar book would be in order?

Why would a senior have to treat himself/herself like a cheapskate after whole life working hard for the family and society? Some people have never enjoyed life and think that they can enjoy life after retirement. Where the enjoyment of life? I don't understand.
