Best Retirement Spots for Football Fans

I have a hard time taking your opinionated article seriously when on your map you can't even get the location of Miami on the correct coast. The fact is that Miami is not on the gulf side of Florida but on the Atlantic side. Which in my opinion reminds me of another great place to retire that you missed, Naples, Florida. (FYI-If any of you readers want to locate Naples, Florida just go back to the article map pertaining to football and look for the point on the map labeled Miami Beach.)

C'mon, you guys missed the greatest of them all - Ann Arbor, MI, home to the University of Michigan. Within the state of Michigan there are a number of MAC schools - CMU, WMU, EMU plus Michigan State University. it's also a short hop from there to other Big Ten Schools such as Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State, etc. Venture a little further and you can also drive to Notre Dame, Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin. Oh yes, there's also a semi-pro team called the Lions. Not much to see but the stadium is nice. And, sad to say, the last professional football championship in the state was won by a girls team - none other than the Deetroit Demolition!! C'mom over and see some real football!

Who wants to retire in Miami? Please!

Lincoln would be great for this if you are a Huckster fan or have Alzheimer’s (don’t remember your team). The only sports coverage in this state is Huckster football. During TV sports reports they do not even report the scores of all the Big XII teams. Based on my experiences at about 10 Huckster home football and basketball games is - these self-proclaimed goods sports are good sports as long as you do not cheer for your team (the Huckster opponent).

Was the University of Miami intentionally left off your Miami Beach list?

You mentioned FSU and Florida on your comments, both of which are 6+ hours away from that retirement spot. The 'Canes new home at Dolphins Stadium is only a half hour away from Miami Beach. Our gorgeous practice fields at the UM campus in Coral Gables (a.k.a. the "City Beautiful") are the same distance away.

Some other points:

- We have five national championships in the last 25 years, more than Florida (2) and FSU (1) combined.

- Our stellar 2008 freshmen class (ranked #1 by ESPN and several other recruitment scouting services) and head coach Randy Shannon's future recruitment classes will provide great UM football temas for years to come. In addition, eight of our recruits were from the high school you mentioned (Miami Northwestern).

- Shannon will effectively close off the top talent in South Florida to FSU, Florida, and other schools that are trying to invade our territory. The University of Miami successfully recruited 38 percent (17 out of 44) of the Rivals.com 2008 Top 100 Florida recruits who were from South Florida. UF recruited two away from South Florida and FSU only got one. Auburn and LSU had better success in South Florida than the Gators and 'Noles; both getting three recruits each.

- Yes, Miami is and always will be a pro football town. But Rick Reilly of ESPN recently said the 'Canes were the number two show in the Magic City (http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3576248). Number Three: Miami spring football... beating out the Heat and Marlins.

It is a great place for a football fan, but it like Wisconsin and some others on the list are areas of high property tax. The county Lincoln is in has a pretty high property tax rate compared to some other midwest states and locations. It is a great place for those loving football, including some good football with U of N at Omaha.

Nebraska is a great place to watch a game. Over a hundred bars and restaraunts just a mile from the stadium; Sell out crowd every week; and just about the nicest people you'll ever meet. We always welcome football fans. Come to Lincoln, you'll be surprised.

The University of Nebraska in Lincoln has sold out Memorial Stadium every game since October, 1962. That may be the most remarkable of all NCAA records. No doubt, Husker fans are the greatest in all of college football. Every serious football fan should experience the 'Sea of Red' at least once.
