I see the so called educated bunch cited in this article have the Boomers stereotyped as usual.
I believe if they had realy done some extensive research, they might have been very surprised. We are a cross section of society. Not the flower children we are suspected of being.
My friends and family are concerned not for their tax payments, but the future of the p;lanet and our country. Being of Middle Class stature, we strongly believed Mr. Obama and his cabinet choices are the correct ones.
I just love it when certain pweople think they are more qualified to tell me how and what to think and act. Maybe they need real jobs working with real people. Lastly take a good looks in the mirror. You might relizede the labels should be on you and not us.

For me, Obama was the right man at the right time. We definitely needed someone with his character, intelligence and 'can do' attitude.
I only hope that the country stays behind him. Everyone must help!

I would tend to agree most strongly with your hypothesis. Born in 1948, I grew up in the Baby Boom, with all of the social upheaval and the push for equalizing our society. I remember how much we wanted to end wars, end discrimination and make the world a better place. Somehow, we all got caught up in just making a living, and our ideals sputtered along and sometimes sputtered out altogether, till now. Yes, we worry about our economic future, but that is a smaller concern than the future character of our nation.
My husband and I were thrilled to vote for Barack Obama. Oddly enough, our own children are way too conservative, either Christian fundamentalists or so materialistic they are terrified of higher taxes. Our young adult grandkids see the light, however. They are fearless, totally color blind and impatient with old prejudices. That makes us proud and hopeful for our society moving forward.

Boomers are old enough to know better than to elect a combative old womanizer and beer dealer like McCain to lead the free world. How come only half used their sense and voted for Obama?

Problematically, your article lumps two separate cultural generations together as if they are one, which leads to faulty analysis. While there was certainly a roughly 20 year post-WWII boom in births, there were two distinct generations born during that era--Baby Boomers and Generation Jones.
Many prominent pundits agree with this, including Michael Barone from your magazine. You can see video of Barone, and around 20 other top journalists and politicans discussing Obama and Generation Jones, as well as excerpts from articles in Newsweek, The NYTimes, etc. arguing for Generation Jones' existence and importance on this page:http://www.generationjones.com/2008election.html
