How about Albuquerque, NM? Wonderful place to live. Four seasons with long summers (and not as hot as Arizona) and short winters. Moved here over 25 years ago with the USAF and never left. Will retire here.

You must be kidding!

Binghamton NY is in a snow belt. The place freezes over in the winter. That is no quality of life for retirees.

I can't see the crime rate being low that close to the border.

Nobody has mentioned Hannibal, Missouri. Colleges, multiple healthcare facilities, art, Mississippi River, LOW taxes, very affordable housing, mild winters, historic, trade-marked as 'America's Hometown.'

If you don't mind 8 months of drizzle, overcast skies, damp chilly days and nights, Oregon is great. The state is good for Seniors, has lots of things going for Seniors. If you need, or want sunshine in your retiremnet years, Oregon won't be a good

choice. I was raised there, I'm 74 years old and relocated to Southern California and love being here. You can't beat the weather, it's the best. Mild all year around, you can pick your own oranges, grapefruits and other things in your own back yard. Unlike Florida, no bugs, ho humidity, plus, no hurricans. Good luck to you both.

Dear Sandra of TX,

if you Google "housesit abroad" it will list several sites that will help you find what you want.

Randy Masker of CA 3:40PM August 13, 2009

I've heard where people (retiree's) can housesit or dog sit abroad in exchange for room and board while people are vacationing. Anyone know of an agency that handles that type of business?
