When Your Nanny Is Granny

My mom and her husband watch our two kids (ages 4 1/2 and 2) one day a week, and have a sleep-over once a month. My husband and I are so grateful that our kids are building a relationship with their grandparents, since we grew up several states away from our own grandparents. Both the kids and grandparents look forward to Thursdays!

I was raised by my grandparents since I was 1 1/2 years old. I was truly blessed to be raised by them. I dont think my parents could have done a better job and that is why I was given to my grandparents. My biological mother tried to get on her feet and was struggling until she was 29 and then she started doing good and going to school and then she died. I spoke with the editor of this article and was unaware of what this article was really about. I just want to say though that for those of you who are raising your grandchilren or helping with raising them..PLEASE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! I definately think that the younger generation need some morals and a little more manners. ANd trust me when I say that kids (especially teenagers) may seem like they dont like it.. but they will be greatful later on that they were able to spend time with you!! I know I am greatful everyday to be able to spend the time that I did with my grandparents. I currently live with my grandmother (i call her mom) and am greatful that since she has helped me throughout all these years, that I can be there for her now!

If you didn't have Social Security and Medicare (and early firefighter pensions, per article), many grandparents would not have either the freedom or the means to do these things.
