The fundamental problem is that you shouldn't be so responsible for having to pay for either of these. In any other OECD country, state pension (Social Security) is higher, so you don't have to worry about retirement so much. Also in all the other OECD countries, the state picks up most of the tab for college, with the remainder being imminently affordable. Both of these things are only your problem because we're not socialist enough. Uncle Sam, help!
