10 Ways Baby Boomers Will Reinvent Retirement

I am tired of hearing whinners blaming the gov't for not taking control of their retirement. I saw my parents living only on s.s. and made a decision myself (when I was a teenager) that I did not want to have to survive on only s.s. Sure, I worked 2 jobs, put the max in my 401K. And my husband worked 2 businesses he owned and bought real estate to sell when we retired. We made our children respondsible for their future and they paid for their own education for the careers they chose. We are not highly educated people, or blessed with wealthy parents. We did what we had to do to meet our goals. And thru it all we loved our lives and we never felt deprived of any thing. Our children have a better appreciation of their lives. And we hopefully have saved enough for a retirement we can enjoy. Take respondsiblity for yourselves! And be thankful we live in a country that we can do it in.

From what I've read there is no reinvention or invention for that matter in the way that baby boomers retire versu they way that the world before them retired. The only differeince of newsworthy note is that there is so many MORE babyboomers retiring than any other category of (North) American citizen. So the bubble rises. Guess what, nobody outside the big baby-boomer bubble would give a rat's butt about the babyboomer generation and all its expensive, selfish greedy habits, except that it has, like a coorporation deemed to big to fail, deeply, negatively affected us all in North America and internationally - both inside and outside the category. So even in their golden years, as they all retire, they will continue to drag the rest of us down their wide, recklessly-laid path of life, merely because of the size of their group - no other newsworthy reason.

That's whey I'm glad I have a regular retirement and not a 401K.I will receive regular amount of money no madder how long I will live.I Guss I,m one of the lucking one,s with the old retirement. thanks to the government for watching the teamster pension plan.I didn't pay a dime of my money into this plan and I receive a good amount a mouth plus my S.S. for the rest of my life. I hope I will live a very long life.President Johnson and the congress in 1960s chance the law to put the S.S. into the regular funds and took it and is paying back the S.S. in I.O.U.s send the 60s that is a paper saying we will never back you back with the cash we took from you. That is part of resence S.S. has no money.Evening time the S.S.receive more money from the Tax it gets. The government take it and give the S.S. more I.O.U.s and never pays it back. That's is a big part of the deficit. If you don't believe this.start with the 1960s and add S.S. money and the interest it would have made if it wasn't put in to the general funds, and left to average 10% interest for 45year.

My landlady from a previous apartment died while her family continued to collect and cash their mother's soc sec checks for five more years as her power of attorney. When my own mother died it was our responsibility to notify the soc sec adminstration that she was deceased (which we did). Why doesn't the death certificate go directly to the soc sec office to notify them benefits have ended for that person because they died? How many of our benefits have been lost to dishonest relatives and identity theft over the years because of this snafu?

The kind of money I'm reading about is beyond my comprehension. I have many friends who make more money in a month than I have made in my forty-five years of working. That we are equally happy helps me survive the poverty and lean living. And I realize that if the government wanted to it could legally take every cent I have and leave me destitute. It took me twenty years to save ten thousand dollars and that is what I will retire on. I feel lucky to be so well off. Most of the world has nothing compared to me.

I dont understand why some politicians keep wanting to make the retirement age 70. They want us to fall dead on the job I guess. Looks to me like the earlier a person retires the quicker someone gets hired in their place. Then that person has SOC taxes to pay in. Politicians make it sound like no one is goin to replace you on your job .

WHAT IS SAD IS YOU READ ALL OF THIS INFORMATION ABOUT HOW BAD IT IS TO RETIRE EARLY. LIFE IS NOT PROMISED TO ANY ONE. TO BE ABLE TO BE YOUNG ENOUGH TO ENJOY LIFE IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT. LONG AGO PEOPLE WORKED UNTIL THEY DIED. ARE ONLY ENJOYED A FEW YEARS OF RETIREMENT. WORKING NOW DAYS IS VERY STRESSFUL DAILY. THE PRESSURE PEOPLE WORK UNDER IS UNTHINKABLE. NOT KNOWING IF YOU WILL EVEN HAVE A JOB OR RETIREMENT. SOCIAL SECURITY HAS BEEN A ISSUE FOR YEARS. SINCE IT HAS BEEN A ISSUE FOR YEARS BY NOW IT SHOULD BE CORRECTED WITH MORE MONEY FOR PEOPLE. 30 TO 35 YEARS IS LONG ENOUGH TO PAY INTO BENEFITS. THIS IS MONEY THAT SHOULD BE ADDING UP AND INTEREST ON TOP OF INTEREST. YEARS AGO PEOPLE DID NOT LIVE TO EVEN USE IT. GOD GAVE US ALL A BEAUTIFUL WORLD TO LIVE IN. AS PEOPLE ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS FIND A WAY TO LIVE AND ENJOY IT ALL. SO THE SOCIAL SECURITY SHOULD BE MUCH BETTER INSTEAD OF WORSE.

I wonder why American nation never look around and learn that in other countries people get retired in age that allow them to enjoy financial benefits before they die? For example in countries of former Soviet Union people are eligible for retirement since 55 years old for women and 60 for men.

I don’t understand what is in US to be proud of, if most of the nation has to fall dead while working? Is it evidence of the power or weakness? I am sorry the answer is obvious.
