I dont think we have an unusual story. We lost our shoe store after 30 years . My husband is third generation shoe man 61 years old and has been looking for work for 2 years now. He has applied for everything from the bottom to the top. We thought we were prepared for retirement ..but life throws you hurdles. Our daughter also had a bad car accident and lost her leg from the knee down. I am 62 and trying to keep this ship afloat. Paying Mtg and working several jobs.

For those of you whose plans have worked..Im happy for you. For those of us that are hardworking, honest citizens of this United States and have had some bad breaks ..please be Thankful for yourself and understanding of others.

You must work for UPS, or you are a FedEx worker who doesn't like to work. Today's unions are nothing but mafia pimps.

Based on the current ages and planned retirement ages of most of the individuals mentioned in this article, it's amazing most of them thought they had even a slight chance of retiring. How can someone planning to retire in 5 years be so ill-prepared that their home goes into forclosure after a year of unemployment? Retirement isn't a God-given right. It's not mentioned anywhere in the constitution. How many of these people have spent thousands over the years on the latest consumer electronics, more home than they need, and regular vacations. The price you pay for that lifestyle is you work until you die. It's like The Ant and the Grasshopper.
