I am hoping that my story will keep some other "laid off" person ENCOURAGED. Although it took 2 years to find another job after being "laid off" - I never stopped looking. My secret: (1) Look around you to see what is needed (2) Evaluate your skills to see if you can fill the need or obtain the necessary skills (3) Approach the organization or person you want to work for (4) Offer to work for "free" so that they can "evaluate" your skills (5) And keep looking - always have a plan just in case you get "laid off" again :).

Please share the "link" below with anyone who may be going through what I went through for two years. Sometimes WESH Channel 2 has an "advertisement" on before the story - so please be patient for a few moments! :)

***I am from Phenix City, Alabama but due to NOT being able to find a job there, I had to take this TEMPORARY job in Orlando, Florida. I am actively seeking employment back home and will return when I locate a source of income***

While you won't find the word Workamper in Webster's dictionary - yet - you will find it in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The official definition goes as follows: Workampers are adventurous individuals, couples and families who have chosen a wonderful lifestyle that combines ANY kind of part-time or full-time work with RV camping. If you work as an employee, operate a business, or donate your time as a volunteer, AND you sleep in an RV (or on-site housing), you are a Workamper!

When we coined the word Workamper and made it our trademark in 1987, we had no idea that 23 years later it would be so widely used.

One thing is for sure, while Workamping is here to stay, Workamper News will be right here to continue helping people make their dreams of becoming a Workamper and living the experience come true. Since our beginning, we have helped thousands of people in supporting their love for travel/living in their RVs while working seasonal jobs. Plus, helping to connect the employer with people who bring a wealth of knowledge in life skills to help increase the bottom line of their business while taking out the stress of recruiting is another goal we have at Workamper News.

The Workamper loves what they are doing because they are looking for the experience - not a job! If they had wanted just a job, they would have continued their life long careers. This is what makes a Workamper so unique. It’s all about the experience!

Whatever you choose to do after you retire from your 9-5 job, make it something you love. Sometimes I feel that everything I have done so far in my life has lead up to what I am finally able to do now: Retirement has become a safe platform that allows me to take chances and concentrate fully on my passion.

Develop passions all your life; you can bank on them just like your retirement pension and they are always there when you need them.

Thanks for writing about The Caretaker Gazette. I retired last year and found www.caretaker.org to be the best site for housesitting assignments. I recently started using www.caretaker.org and have found two housesitting assignments there so far this year.

Work-camping is an excellent way to travel, stay in beautiful areas, and earn money too. While camp hosting is one way, there are many other ways to earn money and travel in an RV. RVers work at amusement parks, at Amazon, in tourist towns, NASCAR races, in national and state parks as paid workers, harvest crops, sell items or run their own business using their computer in their RV. Plus, living the RV lifestyle can be a less expensive way to live. RVing and working allows you to earn money but also make dreams come true!
