Every analysis I've read on this issue leaves out two most important factors.

The cost of living at a specific location and,

What does each state and each local entity spend for each person?

What will be found - There is a public cost per person for all government services.

Law enforcement, education, roads etc.

All levels of govt get their revenues from many sources. Thus, one way or another they get it.

Thus, the question how much is collected and how much is spent per person?

Just one factor makes for a poor decision.

A good example is Florida. No; inheritance or income taxes, but very high taxes on gasoline & liquor.

Look very deeply at the bottom line cost of living in a location, before you leap/move.

All factors included, I bet you will find that North Carolina has about the lowest cost of living, if you also want good health care & education opportunities. Otherwise Alabama & Mississippi should do.

I live in Dover New Hampshire in a home with a market value of $340,000 and my property taxes are $7900. New Hampshire is a low tax state only if you have a huge income or homeless.

People in WA wish the sales tax was 6.5%. Believe the current minimum (before local add-ons) is 8%.

Error: Total Washington state + Local sales tax is almost 10% (9.81%) here in Seattle/King County where I live, and they just started taxing water (bottled). Next is Air. Sales tax was 6.5% many years ago.
