YOU FAIL TO MENTION THE RISE IN CRIME, THE SMOG, FROM BEING ON THE NORTHERN TIP OF A MAJOR VALLEY, VERY HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT, AND A NORMAL SUMMER DAY OF AROUND 100 DEGREES PLUS.

Having grown up in Fayetteville, AR, I'm both proud and somewhat confused to see it included in this 10-best listing. True, it's in the Ozark Mountains, but it's not exactly what I'd call a "mountain town" in the way that the others in the list are, and the nearest snow skiing is 5 hours north in Missouri. Northwest Arkansas has some great streams, rivers, and lakes if you're into recreation involving the liquid form of water though.

We bought 2.183 acres in the Sheep Creek subdivision, a gated community in the Conejos River Valley (on Hwy. 17 in southern Colorado). Invested $68K in 2005. Since 2008, have been trying to sell it for a reasonable market value profit. It is beautiful country and as yet, not discovered by the hoards. Wouldn't mind living there full time, but don't think I'd do well in snow country. Any snow lovers out there? Check out the sheepcreek.org site.
