I read this comment in one of your articles, "If you were marired for at least 10 years, you can claim Social Security benefits based on an ex-spouses work record". We had been married for 45 years I got divorced from this lady 3 years ago and she is being paid Social Security from my account since 2005, not from her working record. I have since remarried and have been on Social Security since January 2004. Does the above statement mean I can increase my Social Security benefits based on her work record?

One could wait until 70 to file for social security if they would like, but no one knows when their time is up. Also one might want to enjoy some free time, I mean by not working everyday and doing things they enjoy doing until their demise, I know I would.

If re-married, can I draw Social Security off my deceased wife?

When a person works and pays in social security and then goes and works paying into a retirement plan, retires and social security takes two thirds of your retirement, before they will pay you your social security benefits. I find this very unfair. Evan if you are entitled to your husband social security, they still take two thirds because you paid into a retirement plan., Not all retirement plans fall under this, but I know OPERS does. If you draw retirement from opers, social security takes 2/3 of it, including cola. This is s.s. doing this, not OPERS.It wasn't always like this when social security began in 1935 nor did President Eisenhower change it, President Raglan did I believe while he was President. I wish President Obama would reconsider the act and change it back. It really makes it hard to live on such a small amount each month.I do consider myself blessed thou, I could be without nothing.

I am 45 years old;I paid $75.000.00 in taxes,before I reached the adult age of 21.Reason being I always had a job.Even if I lost a job,I would immediately find more work.Really,and,collected at least that much,since the age of 24,when,then,started collecting disability,only after I was claimed disabled in the court of law.Now,after losing my payee,and,of course my check now,for some 15 mo.,I re-applied,and,am desperate for income.All I can do is wait.They said a decision will be made,within 2 weeks,over 1 week ago.today.Anyway,I got housing,food stamps,insurance($5000.00)the same amount(a little more)for school as well,with a baby on the way!
