There is no social security trust fund. There are only IOUs from the Treasury. Surplus collections from social security taxes are spent each year.

Unfortunely the GOP is not blessing him in anything he suggest for the repair of our pitiful economy which, by the way, he inherited from Bush. GOP wants the country to go back to its old ways. Are they out of their minds? Or, Just out of money. Looking to line they pockets with a tax break. Should we continue to "let the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer". Where is the justice for the working middle class people? We are the ones that mantain this economy. The money has never trinkle down in the past, and IT NEVER WILL. The GOP would like us to believe that, but don't go for that one again. DON'T BE FOOLED. Remember that it did n't work before. What should be different now. They could care less about you and me. That is why they continue to vote NO for the things that our county needs the most right now. The party of "NO" is not on your side. They are not fighting for the things you and I believe in or desperately need for the future of our country and our children. I am convince that if GOP governs our country again that they will have us in another war in the near future. DO NOT FORGET WHAT HAPPEN WHEN GOP WAS IN OFFICE. DON'T YOU FORGET IT!

What Obama said does not matter because his arithmetic smells of fairy tails. He promises everything to everybody and said that it will not increase taxes or the deficit. 14 mil.new people will get free health care and it will cost us nothing, we will just close some tax loopholes and let the top 2% pay for it, everybody will get the health care of the senators and there will be no unemployment. We are waiting for a boy who will recognize that the king is naked. If Obama does nor stop spending our money like a drank sailor, our retirement income, health care and value of our savings will be in great danger. Excessive spending has to stop and our government has to live according to its means.

Barack Obama inherited a holy mess, which is now his. However it is true that those who wish to undo what he has done to start to repair it have the very ideology that got us into this mess.

It takes a long time for a country and an economy to get into the mess we are now in, and it will take a long time to get out of it.

Those with no patience, or the only two percent who are so greedy that they want their tax cuts to continue even when we obviously have serious problems that need resources to address them, may get what they deserve, but the rest of us will also have to live with it. Sound familiar?

I am sick of hearing and reading comments such as made by Mr Culbertson about the President. How quickly has it been forgotten that this President inherited a train wreck of an economy caused by the laisser fair attitudes of the GOP to responsible regulation of the economy. I also give him fair marks for attempting to solve the seemingly intractable problems of the health care system. How can any President succeed when faced with a so called loyal opposition that cynically stalls any measure just to make political points. Just remember people, left to the GOP, there would be no Social Security or Medicare.

Its time to clean house in DC. If we don't do something soon we are going to be in trouble as a nation. If we can fill Congress and the Senate with people that oppose what Obama is doing we can take the power that he has away. Those of us that are ok with a do nothing attitude, my 1 vote can't make a difference, need to get off the couch and take notice of whats happening to this country. We are headed for socialism for sure. If you think this socialized medicine works well, just talk to our neighbors in Canada. They will tell you a different story than Obama wants us to believe. I have been retired for 12 years and we struggle every month to make ends meet, while our president takes another vacation on my nickle. We did without for years and years so we could have a comfortable retirement. Thats a joke, I work more now than I did before I retired. I just can't make the money I made before. I have looked for a job in order to have something steady coming in but I don't know wheather its my age or bald head but I haven't had any luck. Enough sour grapes. We are glad to be alive and able to take care of ourselves. Thank You for giving me a platform. RK Culbertson

Just tell me who elects someone who hangs with questionable characters,&

seems to be from another country (who really knows) and even if he is an attorney, had no economic experience. For heavens sake he was a community organizer with a questionable organization if what I have read is true. Then spent a small amount of time in Wash. DC as a senator or something. His wife takes expensive trips while the rest of us struggle. The female side kick, Nancy girl, acts like Marie Antionette. I called her that before the press started using it. They have the attitude "If they have no bread let them eat cake". Also John McCain is not the anwer at least Mitt Romeny knows something about

economics. He is not in because he is of Mormon faith. What faith do we have in the White House now? Also Newt Gingrich seems to have something going for him. At least he loves the USA! WE NEED DRASTIC CHANGE WITHIN THE BELTWAY. MOST OF THE PEOPLE ELECTED HAVE LOST TOUCH WITH THE REAL AMERICAN CITIZENS. WHO SUES A STATE FOR BORDER PROTECTION? MOST PEOPLE FEEL WE SHOULD THROW THE BUMS IN DC OUT!

SR HAMMERSLEY of OH 6:35PM September 06, 2010

We have no one to blame but ourselves. Anyone who thinks it would be radically different if John McCain won is a partisan delusional. The fundamental operation of the beltway must be changed. Congress must be affected by the laws they create. They feel they must be set aside from the laws that are written for the dumb-masses. This MUST be stopped. I also feel that every member of Congress MUST be required by law to do their own taxes by hand every year...by themselves...no calculator. How long do you think it would be before tax law was as simple as reading a comic strip? Federal employees must not get a COLA raise until their counterparts in the private sector catch up to their wages. Must I go on? I have hundreds of ideas that would quickly balance our budget. Not so popular, though.

Depending on your tax bracket you can get 8% return now by investing in muni bonds, probably more

of 11:08PM September 03, 2010

Who in their right mind would imagine a safe level of risk for any investment now paying a nominal 8% rate of return, or a matching employer 401K contribution of 3%? Such days of plenty are over for the foreseeable future. The thoughtless over-spending of our elected government during the past 40 years has effectively poisoned the well for real capital growth in America. But lest we seek comfortable scapegoats, let us also remember that we elected this crowd of blithering economic idiots and they did exactly what we demanded of them.

As the cartoon character Pogo phrased it so well: "We have met the enemy... and he is US!"
