I also brought a nook while in the US and had the same problem, I live in Bermuda, but if you down load Adobe digital reader, you can buy books from where ever and drag to your nook via usb.

After purchasing a Nook I was surprised to discover that orders outside the US will not be filled. You have to download your order from within the physical US. Barnes & Noble customer service informed me that you can't use WI-FI to download e-books at this time outside the US. They did say they were working on this issue, but would not commit to when this issue would be resolved. No one told me I would not be able to make e-book purchases for the Nook outside the US when I bought the Nook. I am currently in Mexico traveling and cannot use my Nook one iota. I am going to ask for a full refund when I return to the States. One advantage of having an e-reader is obvious for traveling. But not if you are traveling outside the US with a Nook.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INFORMATION ON E-BOOKS LIKE THE NOOK. MY HUSBAND PLANS TO BUY ME ONE FOR MY BIRTHDAY IN OCT. I KEEP READING MORE AND MORE ABOUT IT SO I WILL BE VERY INFORMED AND WILL KNOW THE POSITIVE AS WELL AND SOME NEGATIVE FEATURES BY THE TIME OCT. ROLLS AROUND!

I LOVE TECHNOLOGY WHICH CAN BE OVER WHELMING BUT FINALLY THERE IS SOMETHING EVEN I CAN WORK WITHOUT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS, LOL. I AM AN AVID READER AND NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT A BOOK NO MATTER WHERE I'M GOING AND THE E-READER WAS MADE FOR ME!!

I bought the nook for my mother. We share a household so it makes since that we would share rather than have two Nooks. I've purchased a nook book on my Barnes and Nobel account thinking I could download it and then move it over to the nook from my computer. Much to my surprise, I cannot open the book because it was not purchased on the email that is associated with the nook's registration! What this means is I cannot open these books and read them on the nook as planned.

Yes I can "lend" a book but Barnes and Nobel designates the limited amount of time that the book can be borrowed (may I remind you that I'm lending the book to myself!)

Guess I'll go back to buying print books. Then I can do what I want!

You can only share a book once for 14 days, then you have to either buy it or forget about it. A hard cover book you can share forever for as long as you want, a new way for them to make money!!!! Call me archaic but I want the freedom to read at my own pace and share with as many people as I want.

I was thinking of asking for a Nook for Christmas but because of the negative comments I'm not so sure. Any feedback to help change my mind?
