All I ever hear from the mouths of many boomers is how much fun all their partying years were never mind that many of them are on SSDI take considerably more medications at 54 to 64 and are more disabled than their parents did or were at 68 to 78.

So why is it that the boomers were so upset that their children turned out the be chips off the old block.

To understand the difference between all the generations of the late 1900 to 1935 and all of the boomer generations out there. You need only ask the two different generation members what their thoughts of drugging gangs and binge partying are. And you will know why the two's health's are so vastly different.

I think that because many of the boomers screwed their lives up so bad unlike the generation before them that many will try for SSDI disability rather than social security as many of them are hanging on the their jobs now only by forcing themselves. Unlike the generation before them 1935 1920 at 77 to 87 and still out there shoveling snow in 5 below and splitting wood in 90 degrees by hand every day and loving it very much whole their children sit inside barely able to move after a day spent cruising on their expensive toys.

Sedona has a lot of second home owners here, but many of the full time residents are over 50.

The best place in the world for retirees is Sri Lanka. Its the Only country on earth that terrorism has been wiped out completely. The country is very safe for foreigners. You can get any weather condition (hot or cold) within the country you like within a drive of 3 hours. You can live comfortably with an income of US$ 2,000 a month. A comfortable 3 bedroom Air Conditioned house can be rented for US$ 300-400 a month. The state bank's interest rates are 10% per year. Your money is 100% safe. The world's best beaches are here. The country has a growth rate of 8% per year for 2010.

I thought the comments had good info and opinions. BTW, I think Texas is very low on my list just in case there's a community of Bart type people. Whew!

Life is what we make of it, at any age. I never had an easy life but also never had the hardships/tragedies some have experienced. I have struggled, failed, triumphed, just skimmed by, and everything in between. But I have never uttered the old excuse: "I had no choice" because I believe there is always more than one choice. We may not like them, but the choices are always there. At age 67 I quit my job, used my meager savings to put a down payment on a used 24' motor home, sold my belongings and set off alone to explore the USA. Workamping my way from the West coast to the East coast took almost a year. There I met a nice fellow, living a similar lifestyle, and we began doing workamping jobs together, (but each in our own RV). We are both 73 and in one RV now, looking forward to celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary the day after tomorrow. We are "as different as daylight and dark" with little in common aside from the love of discovering what's around the next bend in the road. We do miss family and friends, keeping in touch as best we can- mostly by phone and email. But we will probably continue this lifestyle as long as we are physically able. We all have challenges, but we all have choices, too. Next stop, the New England states!
