Why the Retirement Age Is Increasing

Ladies and gentleman... does it really matter if it was a Rep or Dem that's responsible for giving away your SS money or raising the retirement age? It shouldn't, but what should is that it was in fact an 'elected' politician. Same with the raising of the retirement age. I don't remember voting 'yes' to raise it, does anyone else? And yes that makes perfect sense, if congress can vote to give themselves a raise using TAXPAYER monies then we should be able to decide at what age we want to start drawing monies from our SS accounts that we have paid into over the years. I'm 55 and an Armed Forces Vet, I'd like to retire and still work part time. If it takes another REVOLUTION to make something like this a possibility and put this country back into the hands of the people I'm ready to stand with other Americans and do whatever is necessary.

Forget about blaming government for a second and ask yourself this:

If there was never inflation and there was never any return on investment, and this is realistic because the investments of many people don't beat inflation by much, then...if you start working full time at 20 and want to retire at 60 and plan to live to 90, then you are working 40 years to support yourself for 70. Which means... for every 7 dollars you earn, you save 4. Did you do that? ENd of story

Always be sure you buy a car that has a flat bed in back. A station wagon or

sport utility...... so you can sleep in it using a sleeping bag and foam mattress.

You may not need it but then you never know so always be safe by being prepared. Go to a warm southern climate so as not to freeze in winter.

Then, get a post box to collect your mail (name it suite number nnn to make people think it's an apartment.... use only private mail box companies, not U.S. Post Office)....... Then, get a cell phone with a car charger to

answer calls of potential employment, etc.......

Then, park at night at all night food stores (not too close to entrance and

not too far to stand out like a sore thumb)..... or park in an apartment

complex parking lot, or wal-mart, or hotel, or all night health club after 10pm... be sure to exit no later

than 6 or 7 am the next morning to avoid being noticed.

Then, sponge bathe at early moring restrooms in food stores or bagel shops, etc.

.... or join a very low cost health club (like Gold's gym) that is open 24 hours to shower and use the bathroom.

The above means you have no rent or utilities cost.

I agree quit supporting these countries. Support our own people first. When social security and medicare are solvent then you can think of helping others. Leave social security alone. It was meant to be in place for the elderly when they retire. Cut government officials benefits and wages first. Do not borrow from social security it is not a fund to dip into or and bank to get a loan from. Repay what has been borrowed already. Leave retirement age alone. People should not be forced to work until they are dead. Most people look forward to being able to retire at 62 if that is what they need to do because of health reasons or the fact that they have worked hard all their lives at low paying jobs and are just plain worn out. Give back their cost of living raises and take away raises for politicians until they think of the people that elected them. Punish politicians for not paying their taxes just the same as you would any normal citizen quit giving them a slap on the wrist. Expel them from the offices they hold and do not let them have their retirement benefits. They should be setting a good example not showing people that elected officials are nothing but crooks. LEAVE SOCIAL SECURITY ALONE and quit WASTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON RIDICULOUS EARMARKS.

For those who are healthy at the time you start drawing social security (I started drawing social security this year after turning 62 in 2009) - you are certainly blessed. I highly recommend that you continue to work at jobs that you do not consider work - but things that appeal to your passion. Continuing to work in this situation does three important things. First, it gives you additional $ to help pay for your retirement lifestyle. Although limited to earned annual wages up to $14,160 (Age 62-65) and $37,000 (Age 66 - Year reaching Full Retirement Age) these additional $ helps pay for daily incidental expenses that you might otherwise have to tap into your retirement savings. Second, by continuing to work, you will continue to pay social security taxes on your wages and thereby you social security annuity continues to grow as you continue to work through retirement. Third, by continuing to work after drawing your social security you are still allowed to deposit into a Roth IRA even though you have technically retired. This allows you to continue to save in a tax free account throughout the time you work. Also, do not forget that once your reach full retirement there is not limit to the wages you can earn. So working at your passion can last you entire lifetime if you desire.

IF THE US. GOVERNMENT WOULD STOP FOREIGN SPENDING, the deficit and national dept would be paid and Social Security would be solvent.

We spend $$$ on troops in countries all around the world, to protect our COMPETITORS!! For what??? Security...of who...the rich Corporations who pay little if any taxes.

Before we increase age limits and reduce "intitlements" WE SHOULD STOP ALL FOREIGN SPENDING, FIRST !!!!!

We give aid to Isreal of $50,000 for every single person there.

We give 3 Billion dollars per year to Egypt to not attack Isreal.

We have 36,000 troops protecting Korea

Troops in Germany, Japan, Afgan.,Iraq, Serbia, Cuba...the list goes on and on.

And how about embassy's...palaces with staff's and huge salaries.

Now lets talk about subsities...to Brazil for cotton, other countries with trade issues we just pay off with your tax dollars.

STOP ALL FOREIGN SPENDING.....We are broke and have to borry it to "give it away" ??? Stop the MADness....take back America!!!

I have worked since the 7th grade. It may be ok for people who sit behind a desk, but the average person works very hard and deserves to be able to retire and draw the social security they have payed in all the years they have worked. Let's put the younger people to work instead of trying to kill off the people who has worked all their lifes. Let's let the older people retire and put the younger people too work and let them keep the older people up. the government needs to look at other solutions and leave retirement along. do away with food-stamps and welfare and take care of the older generation. we need to leave the retirement account along. GOVERNMENT WAKE UP

We continue to see the abuse by our government and Corporate America. Our Government allows this. We complain about it but that is not enough. Everything seems to benefit the Rich and the Greedy. I feel it is time for us, the CITIZENS OF AMERICA to reclaim our goverment! If we rallied and stood together as one enormous body, we could change the climate in Washington and Corporate America. We need to get rid of those in Washington...many have been there too long, are too powerful and care nothing about us. They should have term limits as a president has.

It has been the middle class who has kept this country stay abreast and pay the heavist amount of taxes. Baby boomers have contributed the most and yet we are the ones who continue to get screwed the most.

I NO LONGER HAVE FAITH OR CONFIDENCE IN OUR GOVERNMENT AND FRANKLY I AM SICK AND TIRED OF ALL OF THEM.

I said it once and I'll say it again. History shows that social scurity was started for older people to retire on NOT for disability, or women who lost their husbands in death to give to their children. I know it sounds heartless but if you read your history you would see. Families need to help take care of the disabled and women need to go to work to support their children like many other women do. It also shows right now that no one is going to take care of the seniors because thanks to all your dipping into ss now the well is almost dry.

thanks alot capital hill
