The Baby Boomers Turn 65

I think its great baby boomers are getting ready to retire ,but what about the next generations coming up.Baby boomers, did you educate your children for the future themselves so,if there isnt ss when they retire they might have a chance to ..LIVE

We all with having /raising children are making our futures so hopefully baby boomers have invested wisely in educating the future for themselves~because whatever failures comes with the goverment we all have to turn to our children if there is no ss.So I would hate to have to count on my children if the best I gave to them was how to wait on tables/or help people @ Home Depot.Does Home Depot or any restaurant chain allow you to have 401 k or dental/optical insure paid by them.....I dont know.

But if our children cant hardly take care of themselves how can elderly /baby boomers have any security.

Atleast people that make over two hundred thousand per year will be doing great for 2 more years wow I know us lower middle class people were worried that those people were going to have to pay alot more taxes, but thankfully they can leave it us ,that make fifty thousand per year to figure it out ,wow that was a relief for us to know our responsibilites,no guessing about that one..but now goverment says the reccession will be coming to a close..Yippee,i cant wait.

If you have been receiving ss benefits and you are turning 65 in 2011, you will automatically receive a packet from the ss administration 3 months before your 65th birthday, at that point you have to decide if you want medicare benefits or ( if you are still working and have medical insurance trough your employer ) want to join later after you leave your job.

My suggestion,( unless you have an extraordinarilly good medical ensurance ) join immediatly, it will be less expensive than what you are contributing to your current medical insurance, one of the many advantages, once you have medicare and you need to see a specialist you can set up your own appointment without having to call your primary phisician and ask for a referal.

Good luck to all the boomers

Soical Security is a acam. the goverment lied back in the 40's when it was first past. the only way that it would pass muster with the supreme court was the the government stated that these funds are not earmarked for anything and the they are all going to the general fund. I am in my 50's and I do not believe or ever believed that I will every get any of it.

I will turn 65 in July of 2011, having worked since the age of 15. I am currently receiving my deceased husband's Social Security. Since we "both" worked and paid into Social Security, it doesn't seem fair that I (us "Baby Boomers") can only claim one or the other. What happens to the money that "I" paid into Social Security ? Who receives that ? Since we have to make a choice, then why can't those funds be used to help someone else ? What is that money being used for ?

Tthe original intent of SS was to require people to save their own money because the government said we could not do it ourselves. So they collected money from each of us for years and but then decided in the meantime that they should pay it out to all the moochers, cheats and parasites who wanted SS for whatever reason. Go visit a SS office in your part of the country and look at the people who you would expect to see there. It certainly won't be the old people you would expect to see, but a bunch of very young minorities collecting money that they never put into the fund or were entitled. O by the way, that money they collected from us was taxed when they confiscated it from us. Now that we are eligible to receive it, we are taxed again on the payments. As for Medicare payments to us, they charge us even more than the average person because they say we have saved too much early in our lives. How does that figure? The government encouraged us to save and are now penalizing us for that sacrifice we made in our early years. Check this out if you don't believe me.

Let's not forget that Social security is something we paid into. It was a guarantee for us after 62. Much of it because the government didnt think we could handle our own affairs. The government has been dipping into these funds and now it is pay back time. Look who does not have the money and are crying I can't pay you now. It is not a welfare plan. All our lives we have paid in more than we are getting out. Between husband and wife we paid into social security 75 years combined. My husband 45 years and Myself 30. This is something our younger generation are crying about having to pay us back. Remember we were the backbone of our countrys finances, building and strengths. What about our polititicans? The increases they take every year, they are the ones who should consider taking pay cuts instead of our every day citizen who cannot find a job or are taking pay decreases. As well as decreases in all insurances, now they are talking taxing the citizen that pays into that fund.

Washington is to blame if he had not won the war it would have been a british problem.

I think there is a lot of misinformation out there and too much emotionalism. We need to be better informed and stop letting politicians and media pundits do our thinking for us.
