Today, I heard that the CA SSI, program is cutting checks by $50.00 per month.

The woman I heard this from is living in a small 2 rm cabin in Georgetown, Ca.

The real boonies! Her gas for heating water will be turned off. The gas co. comes out and takes out the gas. She will have some electrical, paid by the HEAP program. Which, is only going to give the Placerville, CA. area 200 applications for a few months. I'm getting picked up at 4:30am to get a ride to wait in line.

Taking from the disabled and the elderly is dispicable. What have we done to our country. It is for each it's ownSSI. People don't care about each other anymore.

All the politians need to be thrown out of office. Im voting for the green party.

Discussted and angry. The revolution is coming!!!

Another redistribution scam. I max out on my contributions each year and can hardly expect SS to be around when I retire. And with the current economy I expect to retire late. So, I basically pay for others ... spread the wealth (c) ... except it's not wealth, it's my hard-earned money, redistributed to those who do not bother to work as hard as I do.

I'm sure if I got to keep my SS contributions, I'd find the way to invest them and be facing much brighter future now.

I am so grateful to even be getting social security. I ve worked for 53 years, and most recently after working at a Domestic Violence program for 21 years, got laid off. The organization has never had a retirement benfit, so my sole retirement is soc/sec. If people knew that a lot of non-profit organizations are directed by a Board of Directors who in the end are the ones (for this one) that chose not to allow those kind of benfits.

I just applied for social security & was told I could collect under my Ex-Husbands benefits. With our economy the way it is, this doesnt make sense? During divorce proceedings I received a property settlement along with maintenance. It doesnt make much sense to me that I would still be able to collect benefits as a "spouse" under his benefits, when he is remarried with children, this does not make much sense.

I am not yet eligible for SS but have been contributing for the last 25 years. By the time I reach 62 there will be no SS left. I have come to accept that as reality.

Instead of complaining about how unfair it is to you, why don't you send a thank-you to your working kids and grandkids for funding the system that sends you money each month. Because they are really the ones that will be treated unfairly in the long run.

SS was sappose to be a safety net program. It was for disabled people to tide them over until they can recover, get back on their feet and get back to work. Or to help with costs of living if you are lucky enough to live longer than you planned for.

SS is not an IRA or 401k, it is not a Pension Plan, it is not a bank account. Can we stop treating it as an entitlement and start looking at it in the way it was intended? I think you all will be much happier in the long run.

because of my birth day--i receive my disability check on the 4th. wednesday of every month. some months i go 5 weeks before getting a check. this isn't fair to me. i wish i had a certain "DAY" like the 3rd. of the month to get my check. i don't know why Social security started this CERTAIN DAY AND WEEK of the month to send my check. Who's bright idea was this??????????????? i am NOT A HAPPY CAMPER.

I became eligible for SS on the first day of the month I turned 62 in December. Yet I did not start receiving benefits until the 4th Wednesday of February. Besides not receiving benefits for the month you become eligible, SS also keeps another month of benefits that you will never receive.

Yet people who never paid into SS & receive monthly SSI entitlements receive theirs beginning right away, there's no witholding a month of benefits and receive their payments on the first of every month, while us that worked & paid into SS all their lives have to wait until the end of the month to receive our checks if your birthday is on the 21st or later. Every Xmas, I receive my monthly check AFTER Xmas and have no money for food or gifts. Many months I go without food and can't pay my bills just because I was born on the 22nd. This is not fair.
