Now wait, housing depreciation of 91% in one year?? As in houses are worth less than 10% of what they were a year ago? As in the average sale price was approaching $3,000,000 in 2009? Anyone else think those numbers sound fishy?

You might be able to buy a cheap home in Florida but the cost cost to insure it, pay taxes on it and cool it in Florida's 6-9 months of heat and humidity can be a budget buster. If you decide Florida is not for you just like the 1000+ people a day that move out of FL, you could be trapped there if home prices continue to go down. Be cautious.

While it is beautiful here, financially not a wise option based on the taxes. Yes, we have no sales tax, but more than make up for it in income and property taxes. Interesting, I went on this site because I am retiring soon and my financial planner says to get out of this state, so what do I find as bargain places to retire but the exact city I should move away from to maximize my retirement dollars. Housing, while price is important is not the only thing to consider so low housing prices aren't everything. Plus the liberal attitude here is bordering on ridiculous.

Wahiawa? Lived there! Done that! Was not bad at the time and has a cool climate which one can detect as they travel up California Avenue but tends to rain a little too much. Had to turn on electric stove in kitchen to warm it a little during the winter months...normally end of Dec and January. It has one of the worst school systems in the states...discipline wise and learning wise. Of course that applies to most of Oahu, except for the private, expensive schools like Punaho.

It is good to hear what people who live in these communities have to day. They don't sugar coat it and say where they live is the happiest place on earth. It is either because it isn't or they don't want transplants. Which is it????????????? People getting ready to retire want to know.

I retired from the 25th ID- this town is the black hole of the islands! I considered retiring in the very ethnic town of Ewa Beach but Wahiawa is the end of the road for career, quality of life, and the ocassional fugative.

Don't worry, no one wants to live with your sorry redneck a** anyway. You can have texas and all your border trash too. I wouldn't live in texas if someone gave me a house there.

I have owned a business in St. Charles for the last 20 years. It is bad enough that I come here for work every day but to live here? No chance. This place was nasty 15 years ago and has gotten worse since. This list has absolutely no credibility if it has St. Charles/Waldorf in the top ten.
