Actually my family has lived in Albuquerque for about 15 years- crime usually is associated with the particular area you live in - there are many good areas with very minimal crime in Albuquerque- the weather, culture, food and arts are great.

The international balloon fiesta is an annual event that is something to be really enjoyed. It is easy to get to most places within 20 to 30 minutes. We have loved living in Albuquerque.

We just retired to Saint Peter, Minnesota. We are within walking distance of Gustavus Adolphus College, which hosts the annual Nobel Conference, a brilliant meeting of cutting-edge scientist, researchers, and Nobel laureates who give talks geared to a general, albeit educated, public. We are just over an hour driving-distance away from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. We have a myriad of theater, concert, art, and sports opportunities. I think we'll like it here very much!

It would be nice to know about property taxes nn the various cities.. That would make a big difference.

They tell you about the weather and the cost of living, but they don't tell you about the high crime rate, the gangs, having some of the most corrupt city and state politicians in the U.S., the overcrowding, the lack of education and the high poverty rate, all of which could dramatically impact you and your family.

Sante Fe or even Albuquerque are two cities that I would NEVER recommend as a retirement choice.

Santa Fe has outpriced itself. Locals can't afford the prices, it's lost much of the charm I grew up with, way overcrowded. I left in 1995, would've left sooner but stayed for my beloved father until he passed away. The crime rate in NM is terrible, folks are generationally content to be undereducated and ignorant. The few times I've visited since only intensify those impressions.

Walnut Creek would be nice if you can afford a $400K house. Then there is those of us who can afford only a 250K house.

Bob Coleman is absolutely correct. Santa Fe is a fine place if you are in love with native american art, members of the same sex and overpriced cuisine with mediocre service.

The best place to retire is probably right where you live now. Sure the grass sometimes looks greener elsewhere. The Florida Move Guide says that 1000 people a day move to Florida to live a dream but move out when it turns out to be more of a nightmare. More than ten million have made this costly mistake in the last few decades, and moved back to their home state.

when it comes to Santa Fe New Mexico, you say what a wonderful blend of culture i.e. anglo native American and Hispanic. What a bunch of B S.Who ever wrote this is a moron. This moron has never lived here. Also the prices of the homes are very high.Do not believe everything you read on the internet
