Can someone better explain the "claim twice" paragraph? I've never heard of this. Thanks!

If Congress were covered under the same Social Security laws that the rest of the public is covered under, there wouldn't be near as much discrepancy and unfairness.

REALLY HOW DOES THE GOVERNMENT KNOW HOW OLD WE ARE WHEN WE DIE... MANY INDIVIDUALS ARE VERY ILL, AND MAY NEVER SEE THEIR SS PAYMENTS, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOUR LAST DAY IS GOING TO BE HERE ON EARTH TO COLLECT SS PAYMENTS.

THIS IS MY MONEY TAKEN WITHOUT MY CONSENT. i AM TOLD THAT I MUST WAIT UNTIL A CERTAIN AGE TO REAP THE BEST PAYOUT. WHY? I SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE A LUMP SUM. NO ONE IS SURE TO LIVE TO SEE 66 YET ALONE 70. IF I DIE PRIOR TO THESE AGES, WITH NO SPOUSE, SS GETS TO GIVE MY MONEY TO SOMEONE ELSE. HOW IS THAT FAIR. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE MY MONEY AT 62 EITHER A LUMB SUM OR MONTHLY. BUT THAT SHOULD BE MY CHOICE. THE GOV'T IS USING SS's FUND FOR OTHER VENTURES. MEMBERS OF CONGRESS ARE NOT HELD TO THESE RULES BECAUSE THEY ARE UNDER A DIFFERENT SYSTEM, YET THEY MAKE LAWS THAT AFFECT HOW AND WHEN I GET MY MONEY. JUST LIKE ANY SAVINGS ACCOUNT, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO WITHDRAWN WHEN I WANT. AGE LIMIT SHOULD BE 62 NOT 66 FOR BOOMERS

If, as a baby boomer, I decide to delay retiremet until age 70, would the amount I receive at age 70 be greater even if I leave work (with pension) at age 67? Or, do I have to continue to have an income those three years.

i am one on the millions who are over 55, unemployed or under employed with no payroll stub, homeless, virtually penniless, and in poor uncompensated health. There should be an article with good advice for this huge group.

Obviously one should prepare to get on immediately at 62 as you will not live to be much older if you don't.

With SS benefits of around 600./mo, there should be safe havens where it is possible to live well below that. Every welfare type benefit should be explained and offered, medicaid, food stamps, and volunteer work to do (the heck with expecting pay).

Most of this huge demographic are skilled hard workers, lifelong underpaid, who were ruined by the decades of inflation and the accompanying evils they brought. They deserve better.

Can I collect SS benefits on my ex's plan? How does that work?
