I would like someone to tell me and explain why we shouldn't sue the federal gov. for taking money out of the s.s.i. This was set up for the individual for thier retirement. The Feds had no right to borrow from this. In the early '90's' it was in a surplus of over 3 billion dollars and now is almost broke. When I borrow money, I have to pay it back with interest. I say this needs to be done and the only wa is to start a law suit against the Fed Gov. and make them pay this mone they borrowed back and sta the hell out of our retirement, since, we the people pay very dearly for thier retirements and maybe that needs to stop. The politicians should have to depend on social security and then we would see a big change. Most of these people are very well off and do not need the retirement from a job that continues to take from the poor and give to the rich.

why do people consider living on retirement income to be 'fixed income' when they don't consider a 9-5 job a 'fixed income'?? My income has been 'fixed' ever since I started working. The only way to increase it was 'cola' increases at work, changing jobs or the annual pitance they called a 'raise'. Usually it barely kept up with 'cola'. I have always had 'real' jobs, ie: office professional positions. Aside from a few large raises (after years without one) my income has been 'fixed'. The good thing about retirement is I don't have to worry about the company and losing a job.

During retirement, health permitting, I can do the same thing I did when I worked and needed extra funds for something; get a second job. Obviously actually being retired may change the way I think but I really wonder how. I can increase my retirement income simply by delaying retirement. That's something I couldn't do at work. I've never heard anyone say "If I keep working they'll give me an automatic increase for staying an extra year".... Plan ahead, insure a roof over your head (paid for) and I just don't understand the issues.

Most companies look at your application and are able to tell your age. My husband has been on many interviews but when they look at years experience he has he never hears from them again. There is still age discrimination but how do you prove it. They want the younger ones with less experience and will work for less pay. The age of social security went up and the monthly payments to live on is a joke.

Sometime is not whether you are wealthy or not, but IF you are physically fit and do away without MC all the way working, why not just keep yourself active working and contribute knowledege and help society! If you retire you still can work, example contribute voluntary work to society.

Everyone wants to know how much longer I will work. I like my job and say so to some interesting looks. I plan to retire when I tire of this job or they give me a golden parachute. Since I work with the Post Office I don't see that happening any time soon.
