Half of all Americans have less than $500 saved. Retirement without working will be just a dream for most baby boomers. The Florida Move Guide says that Florida homes offer a lot of bang for the buck, but most move back home because of humidity, hurricanes, etc.

Relying on the equity in your home to help fund your retirement is no longer an option. We worked for years building up our home and property, and putting most of our savings into updating the 4000 sq ft home to today's standards and improving the 160 acres of land to include two ponds, walking trails thru the woods, large grassy areas and lots of flower beds and ornamental trees and fruit trees, to where it appraised for $800,000. in 2002, to putting it on the market in 2008 for $600,000. and after 3 years of dropping the price each year, it is now listed for $369,000, and still is not selling. So we are now living with our Grqnddaughter and waiting to be able to buy a smaller home that is more affordable.

I am 75 and qualified for the reverse mortgage, I spoke to many local brokers and banks but none helped me as much as this website - they pretty much compared all the loans for me and helped me get the interest down (closing costs too) the website is http://www.reversemortgagelendersdirect.com/ their number is 877 700 0534.

You should not count on tax-later accounts, such as 401K's or IRA's. Instead, choose and after tax account such as a ROTH IRA, an IUL or GIUL. Some annuities are good but you must be very careful in choosing and know someone who can explain them well.

I am 41 years old. I teach in the state of Colorado; therefore, I will not be getting social security - this might be the best thing since it may not be around in 30 years. I currently put in extra money into IRAs, only have a car loan and make sure that I do not take on debts.

My retirement plan: work until I am able to collect my PERA benefits without age or years penalty, continue to contribute to my IRAs, stay out of debt (currently paying off a car that has 0% interest rate) and live slightly below my means.

Although I would like to continue to work after retiring part-time many older people struggle to find and kept jobs in this economy. In addition, many people are not healthy enough to continue to work. I sincerely hope that the future gets better in the US.

Many Seniors spent part of their life in a survival mode and did not consider retirement planning a part of that process. I am 84 1/2 and never expected to be faced with another survival set of conditions. Simply by continuing to live.

i am now in one of the common roles of 'ranch hand' at my daughters/son-in-laws home - helping with the animals, property, and contributing to what

ever makes us happy.

They are working harder than I did to acquire more than I did and are working on that retirement component. The question is - Did I set an example by doing or not doing ?

One source surely is not sufficient to take care of one's retirement. The pension is the first. Social Security follows, while for healthy senior citizens, part-time employments come in very handy to remove boredom on the one hand and to add to one's purse on the other. One's savings before retirement is good to fall upon.

I believe people don't worry about it till it is too late. We used to have the social security at age 65 but now most of us will never see that., and definitely not our children. I don't have any idea what I will do when I can't take care of myself with no children and no husband who will help me. God will. I pray every day for our leaders to open their eyes and see where there help comes from.
