Cultural Attractions

Summer musicals, a symphony and opera, and the Museum of Art round out the Dallas arts scene, but don't miss the Sixth Floor Museum in the old Texas School Book Depository building, which marks the spot where Lee Harvey Oswald fired his infamous shots.

Recreation

Historical

The Dallas area was settled in the 1840s, and King Cotton spurred its growth. The discovery of the East Texas oil field in the 1930s made Dallas a principal player in the petroleum business.
