From art museum administrator to children’s art entrepreneur, Barbara Chandler Allen, 62, has created a nonprofit, Fresh Artists, which has donated more than $100,000 in art supplies to more than 270 Philadelphia public schools. To raise these funds, Allen has recruited hundreds of student artists to donate rights to their work. These works are blown up into large digital reproductions, which are placed in visible public locations of organizations donating money to the program. Students are inspired to see their work in public, donors have a cost-effective solution for displaying artwork in their offices, and schools receive funds to support the work of more student artists.
