Samuel Irving Newhouse, Jr., nicknamed Si Newhouse, is the chairman and CEO of Advance Publications, thought to be one of the nation's largest privately owned businesses. The Newhouse media empire dates to the 1922 acquisition of the Staten Island Advocate by Newhouse's father. Among its holdings are Condé Nast Publications (which includes Vogue, Vanity Fair, and The New Yorker), Parade Publications, Fairchild Publications, American City Business Journals, and about 20 newspapers, including Newark's Star-Ledger and The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
