Peter George Peterson first made his mark at Bell & Howell and struck it big before his 40th birthday. He was the U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President Richard Nixon, then headed Lehman Brothers from 1973 to 1984. In 1985, he co-founded private equity firm the Blackstone Group with Stephen A. Schwarzman.
